01The Short Version
OceanBite stores the minimum it needs to run a game: your Discord user ID, your Discord username, and your gameplay data. It does not collect your messages, email address, real name, or any other personal information — and it never sells or shares data with anyone.
Some of this information (your username, clan name, and server name) is visible to other players through leaderboards and social features.
02Data We Collect
When you interact with OceanBite (slash commands, buttons, menus, or modals), we store:
- Your Discord user ID — a numeric identifier assigned by Discord, used as your save file's key;
- Your Discord username — the public handle attached to your interactions. It is shown to other players in clan member lists, leaderboards, global stats, and the OceanBite community Discord server;
- Server (guild) IDs and names of servers where you've used the Bot — used for per-server leaderboards. Your server's name may appear on shared leaderboards visible to all players in that server;
- Gameplay data — your in-game progress: levels, currencies, inventory, equipment, skills, quests, clan membership, pets, badges, statistics, and similar game state;
- User-provided game content — clan names you create (visible to all players via clan listings and leaderboards) and game preferences you set (e.g. embed color).
We do not read or store message content, avatars, email addresses, IP addresses, or any data outside the game interactions listed above. Avatars are rendered live by Discord and never stored by us.
03How We Use Data
- To operate the game: saving and loading your progress;
- To provide social features: leaderboards, clans, and tournaments;
- To keep the game fair: enforcing cooldowns and fair-play rules.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, analytics resale, or any purpose unrelated to running the game.
04Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your data with third parties. The only parties that process your data are:
- Discord, which transmits your interactions to the Bot (governed by Discord's Privacy Policy);
- The hosting provider the Bot runs on, where the game database is stored.
Some gameplay data is visible to other players by design. Specifically, your Discord username, clan name, and server name may appear on leaderboards, global stats boards, and in the OceanBite community Discord server. By using OceanBite's social features (leaderboards, clans, tournaments), you acknowledge that this information will be visible to other users.
05Data Retention & Deletion
Gameplay data is retained for as long as the Bot operates so your progress persists across servers and sessions.
You can delete all of your data yourself, instantly — no request needed:
- In Discord, run /settings (or open /menu and pick ⚙️ Settings);
- Press 🗑️ Delete my data and confirm.
Deletion takes effect immediately and removes everything we store about you. It is permanent: your game progress cannot be restored. If you run into any trouble, contact us (see below) and we will delete your data for you within 30 days.
06Security
Game data is stored in a private database accessible only to the Bot's operator. It is not exposed publicly, and access credentials are kept confidential. No method of storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the nature of the data (a game save file).
07Children
OceanBite is intended for users who meet Discord's minimum age requirement (13, or higher where local law requires). We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
08Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective date" above reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be reflected on this page; continued use of the Bot after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
